Washing machines have never been more advanced or tailored to your needs. From models with large capacity drums, advanced washing cycles and highly efficient energy ratings to reduced noise levels and super-fast spin speeds; we have a range of washing machines for households of all types and sizes. This guide will take you through the key features and benefits to help you choose which appliance is best suited to you and your family.

Factors to consider before making a purchase

Capacity

Capacity is a simple but important consideration for washing machines: the bigger the drum, the more you can wash. As a guide, 1 kg is roughly equivalent to an outfit including a pair of trousers, a top, underwear and socks. High capacity machines allow you to wash less frequently, cutting down on energy bills and environmental impact, ranging from smaller 5 kg models to those with impressive 12 kg load sizes. Washing machines should be picked to suit every household. If you have a larger family or regularly do larger loads, try a high capacity drum. If you live in a flat or run a smaller household, consider a 5 kg or 6 kg-capacity machine.

Spin speed

Washing machine spin speeds range from 600 to 1600 revolutions per minute (rpm). Faster spin speeds extract more moisture, leaving clothes dryer when they come out of the machine. This is perfect for items like jeans that require longer drying times, or for when you need to have those favourite or important outfits ready to wear in less time without needing a tumble dryer. If you prefer to hang your clothes out to dry and don't want to wait too long, consider a washing machine with a fast spin speed about 1600 rpm.

Noise level

Washing machines range from 45 dB (A) to 61 dB (A) during a wash cycle - any machine under 50 dB (A) offers a quieter performance, making approximately the same noise as a refrigerator humming. A quiet washing machine can be crucial in open-plan living and is great for those with young families or who prefer late night washing. It's handy when you're trying to watch your favourite TV Programmes too. Many washers now include special sensors that will keep the wash load balanced even as the drum spins at high speeds, making the washer operate quietly. Some manufacturers even claim their washers are silent.

Different cycles and temperature settings

Basic washer settings are heavy duty, normal, delicate, and permanent press. But newer washers have divided these options and made them far more specific. For example, you now can choose from options like prewash, second rinse, bulky/bedding, cotton, hand wash/wool, and steam, to name a few. For heavy-duty cotton fabrics, a standard, no-frills washer is ok, if wardrobe includes a lot of varieties and delicate, a washer that has settings to meet your individual clothing needs must be selected. Washers used to have two temperature settings: hot and cold. Now you get a much broader selection, you can wash and rinse your clothes at different temperatures: hot for washing and stain removal, but perhaps cold for the rinse cycle to prevent the garments from shrinking.

Water level

Most washers have settings that will allow you to set the size of your load of laundry, which will determine the amount of water the machine uses. Some newer washers have sensors that automatically determine the size of your load of laundry and adjust their water output and usage accordingly.

Pedestal and/or Bottom drawers

Many front-load washers are equipped to sit on top of pedestals to make them taller and easier to access. Others come with, or can be set on top of, drawers, which function in the same way as a pedestal while offering extra hidden storage.

Steam

Many washers now come standard with steam-cleaning technology. The steam gently penetrates fabrics to remove, dirt, oil, odors, and wrinkles without damaging the clothing.

Touchscreen

Instead of the traditional dials or buttons, some newer washers come with touch screen.

Advanced timers

Many washers now feature both speed-wash settings as well as delayed start settings. Most speed settings will wash clothes in less than 20 minutes. The delayed start is neat option that allows you to preprogram what time your washer will start to cycle. For example, you could set the timer so that your wash would start later in the day and be done at the time you arrive home from work, preventing your clothes from sitting wet in the washer all day.

Antibacterial wash cycle

Antibacterial wash cycles use more advanced internal heating mechanisms to heat water to the proper temperature to kill bacteria and then maintain that temperature throughout the wash cycle.

Energy efficient or "Green" washer

Look for the EnergyStar rating: The Environmental Protection Agency uses its EnergyStar rating system to recommend products that save energy without sacrificing features of functionality.

ESMA rating Sticker:  In UAE the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) has checked the washers for their Energy Efficiency and accordingly graded between one and five stars. The better the efficiency, the higher will be our grading.

Types of Washing Machines

Top-loading washer

The top-loading washing machine operates, as its name would suggest, via the top. When you pull up on the lid, you expose the washer drum. They come in traditional or high-efficiency models and many have EnergyStar ratings. These washers have recently experienced an overhaul of sorts and many manufacturers are enhancing them with the same features as the newer front-load washers. You can find anything from basic dials and two wash cycles to touch screens and 11 or more wash cycles. VERY IMPORTANT -In case the WASHER water outlet is on the wall then you must ensure to ask for a Top Load washer with Pump feature.

Front-loading washer

Front-loading washers became popular in part, because of their larger wash capacity. Domestic Washers are now available Upto 15Kgs; you no longer have to go to a Laundromat to wash your comforters and large blankets. You could use the large-capacity washer in the comfort of your own home. Front-loading washers are sleek and boast much of the newest washing technology like steam and advanced settings.  Some front-load washers are stackable, giving you all of the space benefits of having a laundry center without having to sacrifice wash capacity.

Semi-automatic washer

Normally referred to as TWIN TUB washers having washing tub and spin drying tub inside the same unit. This is mostly preferred mostly due to LOW BUDGET prices and is easy to use.

Wash-dryer combination

Washer-dryer combination is an all-in-one machine that washes your clothes and then dries them as well. It's convenient and takes up half of the space of a set of separate washer and dryer.
